Street Class

Street class is for all road-legal cars on road tyres.

Street class cars must:

  • Be a recognised production model from a vehicle manufacturer.
  • Have a current Warrant of Fitness (WoF).
  • Display a current Registration (not on hold).
  • Be LVV Certified for any modifications as required for WoF.
  • Have a MSNZ Logbook.
  • 2 strap minimum Fire Extinguisher (please see schedule A for full details).
  • Run on Road tyres with a treadwear rating of 180 or above. If you are unsure of the treadwear rating, please contact the manufacturer before purchasing your tyres of choice. Competitors wishing to use tyres with a treadwear rating of 179 or less should enter the Pro Street class.
  • Have operational headlights (lowbeam & highbeam).
  • Have both driver and passenger seats fitted safely.
  • Have a factory-style dashboard and door cards.
  • Driver must have the correct safety gear as per Safety Schedule A.
  • Please note, you must have a FHR and Gloves to run at Hampton Downs and Taupo.
Street class cars may have:
  • Roll protection (full roll-cages must be MSNZ homologated and present with an Authority Card), aerodynamic modifications, engine modifications including full engine swaps, and weight reduction so long as they are still road legal and comply to Safety Schedule A of the NZ Motorsport Manual.
Street cars must not:
  • Be driven by Professional drivers. Professional drivers wishing to participate in the NZ Superlap Series should enter the Pro Open or Unlimited class.
  • Be a ‘team’ entry. This means that only one driver is permitted per Street Class car entry throughout the season (dual drivers under separate entries in a single car are still permitted). Teams wishing to enter a single car with multiple drivers should enter the Pro Open class.
  • Be Supercars (this includes Nissan Skyline R35 GTR). Entrants wishing to participate in the NZ Superlap Series in a Supercar should enter the Pro Street or Pro Open classes.

Pro Street Class

Pro Street class is for all road-legal cars on semi-slick tyres.

Pro Street class cars must:
  • Be a recognised production model from a vehicle manufacturer.
  • Have a current Warrant of Fitness (WoF).
  • Display a current Registration (not on hold).
  • Have a MSNZ Logbook.
  • 2 strap minimum Fire Extinguisher (please see schedule A for full details).
  • Be LVV Certified for any modifications as required for WoF
  • Run road or semi slick tyres. Pro Street cars may run on any tyres eligible for Street class, or on tyres with a treadwear rating of 179 or less, specifically excluding slick type tyres such as:
    • Hand-grooved slicks
    • Dual grooved slicks (Hankook ventus z214, Hoosier Drag Radials etc)
  • Driver must have the correct safety gear as per Safety Schedule A.
  • Please note, you must have a FHR and Gloves to run at Hampton Downs and Taupo.
Competitors wishing to use tyres from this exclusion list should enter the Unlimited class.

Pro Street class cars may have:

Pro Open Class

Pro Open class is for race cars on semi-slick tyres

Pro Open class cars must:
  • Be based on a recognised production model from a vehicle manufacturer (space-framed cars or non-production chassis cars can still be eligible to run in the NZ Superlap Series, but only on an exhibition basis and will not receive trophies or series points).
  • 2 strap minimum Fire Extinguisher (please see schedule A for full details).
  • Driver must have the correct safety gear as per Safety Schedule A.
  • Run on Road tyres or Semi-slick tyres specifically excluding slick type tyres such as:
    • Hand-grooved slicks
    • Dual grooved slicks (Hankook ventus z214, Hoosier Drag Radials etc)
Note that full slick tyres are not permitted for Pro Open. Competitors wishing to use full slicks or tyres from this exclusion list should enter the Unlimited Class.

Pro Open class cars may have:
  • Roll protection (full roll-cages must be MSNZ homologated and present with an Authority Card, if required), aerodynamic modifications, engine modifications including full engine swaps, and weight reduction so long as they comply to Schedule SL of the NZ Motorsport Manual.
  • Professional Drivers
  • Team entries. This means multiple drivers can drive the car throughout the season, with the points earned accruing to a single entry for the vehicle. However only one driver per round unless using separate entries.
As of the 2018-2019 NZ Superlap Season, we have new Aerodynamic allowances and changes to other rules (including NOS). Please see below for technical specs.

Unlimited Class

Unlimited class is for race cars on full slick tyres.

  • Full slick tyres
  • Roll protection (full roll-cages must be MSNZ homologated and present with an Authority Card, if required), aerodynamic modifications, engine modifications including full engine swaps, and weight reduction so long as they comply to Schedule SL of the NZ Motorsport Manual.
  • Professional Drivers
  • 2 strap minimum Fire Extinguisher (please see schedule A for full details).
  • Driver must have the correct safety gear as per Safety Schedule A.
  • Team entries. This means multiple drivers can drive the car throughout the season, with the points earned accruing to a single entry for the vehicle. However only one driver per round unless using separate entries.
You can dual entry Unlimited Class + One other class.
